Amelia's Story

A blessing...

In 2016, a heartwarming journey began when my husband and I received a call about a family member who had just welcomed a baby (Amelia) but was unable to provide the care needed. Amelia had spent three weeks in the hospital, still awaiting a stable home. With only 48 hours’ notice, we opened our hearts and became foster parents to our precious great-niece, Amelia.

Three and a half years later, she officially became our daughter through adoption. This experience illuminated a harsh reality: many children face sudden removal from their homes, thrust into uncertain situations like foster care with little more than the clothes on their backs, often carried in trash bags.
Motivated by love and compassion, and with the unwavering support of our loved ones, we established Amelia's Backpack Project.

Mission...

Simple yet profound: To offer comfort and dignity to children in crisis by providing them with new backpacks filled with essential clothing and personal items, tailored to their size and gender. These backpacks serve as a beacon of hope, a tangible reminder that they are not alone in their journey.

November 2021, marked the beginning of our ongoing commitment to support children in need in our community as we joyously delivered our first batch of backpacks to the Niagara County Department of Children's Services. We continue to grow, extending our reach to serve more counties and touch more lives.

None of this would be possible without the immense generosity and dedication of our family, friends, and even strangers who have rallied behind our cause. From sewing masks for the children to donating items for fundraising yard sales, every contribution has made a difference in the lives of these vulnerable children.

With gratitude in our hearts, we, Phyllis, Ken, and Amelia, embark on this journey, fueled by love and guided by compassion, knowing that together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of children in crisis.
